Rust film armourer sentenced to 18 months in prison
The armourer on the set of the film “Rust” has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in the accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was in charge of the weapons on set, pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal negligence in relation to the fatal shooting that occurred during the filming of the western movie in October of last year.
The tragic incident brought into focus the importance of strict safety protocols when handling firearms on film sets, and has sparked discussions in the industry about the need for better training and oversight when it comes to the use of weapons in movie productions.
Gutierrez-Reed’s sentencing is being seen as a warning to others in the industry that negligence when it comes to gun safety will not be tolerated, and that those responsible for such incidents will be held accountable for their actions.
The ruling is a reminder of the tragic consequences that can result from lax safety procedures, and serves as a wake-up call for filmmakers and production crews to prioritize the safety of their cast and crew above all else.
