Macron says Paris Olympics opening could be moved
French President Emmanuel Macron has suggested that the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics could be moved to the Stade de France due to concerns over the cost and environmental impact of the original plan.
Speaking at a press conference, Macron stated that while he was “proud” of the initial idea to hold the opening ceremony at the iconic Eiffel Tower, he acknowledged that the logistics and expenses involved in transforming the historic landmark into a temporary stage were proving to be more complex than anticipated.
“We need to be realistic about the challenges we face in hosting a major international event like the Olympics,” Macron said. “If moving the opening ceremony to the Stade de France helps us to save money and reduce our carbon footprint, then it’s a compromise worth considering.”
The Paris Olympics are scheduled to take place in 2024, and the decision on the location of the opening ceremony is expected to be finalized in the coming months.
