Protesters demand Georgia withdraw ‘Russian law’

A group of protesters gathered outside the parliament building in Tbilisi, Georgia today to demand the government withdraw a controversial law that critics say gives Russia undue influence over the country.

The law, which was passed last month, allows Russian companies to gain control of strategic assets in Georgia, such as ports, railways, and energy infrastructure. Opponents of the law fear that it could threaten Georgia’s sovereignty and independence.

The protesters, who held signs reading “Georgia is not for sale” and “No to Russian interference,” called on the government to repeal the law immediately. They also urged the international community to support their cause and help protect Georgia’s sovereignty.

The government has not yet responded to the protests, but Prime Minister Lasha Tughushi has previously defended the law, saying it will help boost economic ties with Russia and attract much-needed investment to Georgia.
